Kalra Orchards

Avtar Kalra came to the Similkameen Valley in 1989 with three rules: plant what loves the valley, pick it ripe, and never argue with the wind. The valley's famous afternoon gusts keep the orchard dry and the fruit clean — Keremeos calls itself the fruit stand capital of Canada for a reason.

His daughter Simran runs the nectarine blocks now. Their fruit is what nectarines taste like when they're allowed to finish on the tree instead of ripening in a truck.
